Privacy Policy

Overview
Nourish ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your data when you use the Nourish app. Nourish is designed to keep as much as possible on your device, and does not require an account.
Camera and Check-In Photos
Nourish uses your device's camera to capture a photo when you complete a meal or water check-in.
What we collect: A single still image captured live at the moment of your check-in. No video is recorded, and there is no photo library import — every photo comes directly from the live camera.
How it's used: The photo is sent to a proxy server we operate, which forwards it to the Anthropic Claude API for a one-time check: confirming the photo shows food or a drink, and generating a short, warm reaction message. The photo is used for no other purpose.
Third-party sharing: The photo is sent to Anthropic's API solely for this one-time classification and reaction. Anthropic does not retain the image beyond the immediate request and does not use it for training. Our proxy server does not store the image either — it passes the photo through and returns the result. The photo is not shared with any other third party through this process.
Retention: Check-in photos are not stored on our servers at any point. After the reaction is generated, the photo is saved locally on your device only (in the app's private storage) so you can view your own history. We never have server-side access to it.
Optional sharing with another person: You may enter a name in Settings for someone you'd like the option to share check-ins with — this is just a label you choose, not a contact lookup, and we don't access your Contacts. After any check-in, you may optionally share that specific photo with them using Apple's native share sheet (e.g. Messages). This is entirely opt-in, one photo at a time — nothing is sent automatically, and we do not store or see who you shared with or what was sent.
On-device mode: You can optionally turn on "on-device only mode" in Settings, which classifies photos locally using Apple's Vision framework instead of sending them anywhere. In this mode, photos never leave your device.
Data We Collect
Nourish does not require or offer account creation. There is no username, password, or profile.
Check-in history, streaks, and schedule preferences are stored only on your device using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData). We do not have server-side access to this data, and it is not backed up to any server we control.
Subscription status and purchase history are managed directly by Apple through StoreKit. We do not operate a separate billing system and do not receive your payment details.
We do not collect your email address, name, or any other personal identifier, unless you voluntarily provide it by contacting us for support.
Notifications
Reminder notifications are scheduled locally on your device using Apple's notification system. We do not send push notifications from a server and have no visibility into when your notifications fire.
Third-Party Services
Anthropic processes check-in photos for classification and reaction generation (cloud mode only). Apple provides on-device storage, local notifications, camera access, the Vision framework (on-device mode), and payment processing via StoreKit.
Your Rights
Since there is no account or server-side data, you can delete all your data at any time by using "delete all my data" in Settings, or by deleting the app, which removes everything stored on your device. Contact us at [email protected] for any privacy questions or requests.
Children
Nourish is not intended for children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of any changes.
